My Innovation Project: A Focus on Professional Learning

This page serves as a snapshot of the innovation plan I began in January 2016.  My focus was based around the process in which educators experience professional learning.  Start at the top and explore your way through the experiences I have had to get me where I am today as an Academic Innovations Coordinator.  There are more projects and additional blog posts throughout my website, but this will give any learner or innovator an idea and somewhat of a blueprint as to what it involves to make a legitimate organizational change.

My Past as a Professional Learner

TECHNOLOGY SELF-ASSESSMENT

This  was a self-assessment on uses of technology within my organization and where I saw myself progressing through Digital Learning and Leading. In making the presentation, I learned a lot about myself and how comfortable I was with technology.

MY LEARNING MANIFESTO

When asked to create a Learning Manifesto and answer questions about emerging trends or issues in technology, I decided it would be a fun idea to interview myself.  Lucky for me, I had a beard and was able to create two versions of myself for the interview!  Watch to learn about some of my opinions regarding education and teacher training.

HARRISON TWP CHROMEBOOK EXPERIENCE

This  was used to present at a Board of Education meeting to describe the ways in which my district was utilizing the Chromebooks that were purchased.  Using only iPhones, WeVideo, and our students, we were able to highlight many of the programs used daily.

This sample lesson plan uses multiple digital tools to enhance the learning process through collaboration.  It also offers a formative assessment using the program Socrative.  If you want to see how results can be gathered easily, check out this plan!

When given the task to document how I use learning networks I have joined, I first created this website.  I chose to create a blog and begin my journey of sharing my thoughts on collaboration.  This short paper discusses my intentions and goals as a member of various learning networks.

The Start to a Change

MY “SELF”

One of the most difficult, yet rewarding things to do is evaluate yourself and how you need to make your own ideas priority number one.  Being empathetic is something we preach to our children, but when it comes to leadership, it is not wrong to drive change with a sense that things need to get done with the interference of personal emotions being placed aside for the greater good of the organization or society.

MY WHY

My plan wouldn’t be possible if I did not establish a reason for creating a new professional development model.  Appealing to hearts and connecting with my audience is essential to getting things started.  With a wonderful and passionate staff, I look forward to getting things started soon.  Please check back for reflections of our WIG sessions!

MY INFLUENCE

Understanding the 6 Sources of Influence applies to all forms of relationships.  The education sector is unique and developing motivating techniques that are appropriate for the setting is how I plan to maximize the excellence of my staff.

MY DISCIPLINES OF EXECUTION

The closer, in my opinion, was developing my plan further through the 4DX model.  Establishing concrete goals, measurements, and visuals is how my staff will understand if we are winning or losing in the process of innovation.

EVALUATING  COURSE DESIGN WITH UbD

It is important to approach course or unit planning from different perspectives.  Now an administrator, I found my initial design to fit my needs, but understanding a UbD approach will assist in providing teachers a path to meet and obtain their goals.

FINK’s APPROACH TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Establishing a BHAG may not be a known strategy when designing lessons or courses. Yet, working backward and addressing significant factors aides in creating my 3 Column Table.

SIGNIFICANT LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

When teaching, my students created the environment, I was only a facilitator.  Allowing choice and a bit of uncertainty provides an opportunity for curiosity to drive instruction.

MY LEARNING PHILOSOPHY

Self-discovery is needed when experiencing new concepts or strategies.  Analyzing myself led me to understand what works best for me, and has allowed me to engage learners in a variety of ways.
